RT Psychological services provides both child and adult Autism assessments. 

 

For child assessments, a referral from a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist is required. Children who are under the age of 13, who have been referred for an Autism Assessment by a paediatrician or psychiatrist can claim a rebate from Medicare of $93.35 for the child assessment session.  The feedback session may be claimable on Private Health Insurance if you have the appropriate level of cover - please check with your individual provider. If your child is over the age of 13, unfortunately there are no rebates available; however please check with your Private Health Insurance provider.

An assessment involves three steps - 

• A 1-hour parent session where a thorough developmental history is taken.

• A 1-hour child assessment session using psychometric testing (generally ADOS-2 or MIGDAS).

• A 1-hour parent feedback session where results are discussed, and a comprehensive report is provided (typically 4 weeks after the last of the assessment sessions are completed).

  • Please note, additional appointments may be required in more complex presentations, which will incur further session fees​.  They will be charged at the standard session rate ($200/hr).

  • Please book the assessment AFTER any language assessments with a speech pathologist, as these results and the report are required to inform diagnosis.

For adult Autism Assessments, we accept self-referrals; however no rebates are available for the assessment.

FEES

The cost for a full assessment is typically $1,700, however this may change if further sessions and assessments are needed to make a definitive diagnosis.  Furthermore, if self-referred as an adult and you do not require a formal report, price is adjusted accordingly.  We kindly ask for a non-refundable deposit of $200 which is processed at the time of booking.  Once the payment is received, we start the assessment process by emailing through intake paperwork, and questionnaires to both parents and teachers.
